Wii-ing on Super Mario Kart

Living with three boys means that there isn’t a lot of time spent braiding each other’s hair and talking about our feelings. What it does mean is that we (they) end up spending a lot of time ‘sessioning it up’ in front of our very large TV, whilst I squeal and run away to the bedroom to pursue higher things like reading (mostly magazines at the moment — it’s not wasting time, it’s research), facebooking or just generalised time wasting.

However, when Super Mario Kart arrived in our lounge this weekend, I did get rather excited, and more embarrassingly my highly competitive nature came out, meaning that my poor housemates were exposed to my vitriolic rages when I lost and rather unladylike gloating when I did win (and I did win, even beating my games journalist boyfriend : www.guycocker.com).

I suppose proper gamers might not like this game as a lot of the levels have been replicated from older versions of the game (I can remember some of the levels from the N64). But for someone like me and my super camp friend Alex who would ordinarily not be seen dead playing anything resembling a video game, Mario Kart provides a comforting nostalgia trip into our slightly geekier childhoods.

And they say chivalry isn’t dead! What about letting the lady faux-beat you once it a while? ;P

Well done on beating Guy. Not to rain on your parade, it doesn’t take much though to beat a games journalist – after all they’re all just smoke and mirrors :P .
