Losing the funny/ Breaking and Entering

The last week or so has been kind of awful. Not the kind of awful where someone you love has a life threatening illness, or you lose your goldfish, or even a somewhat larger pet, but defeating none the less.

Our house got burgled last Thursday, some junkie (I’m not generalising, James saw him) smashed Guy’s and my bedroom window and stole my laptop, camera and jewelry. Luckily for the rest of the house, James was working at home and wound up scaring him off. Combined with my handbag getting stolen LESS THAN A MONTH AGO, everything that I owned of fiscal value is now gone.

The boys keep telling me that it ‘could have been worse’ and that ‘it’s just material stuff’. Internally, the worst part of me seethes with rage thinking, you wouldn’t be thinking that if any of your stuff had of gotten stolen, but I take some deep breaths and the rage passes only to have the despair and sense of powerlessness return.

I got home on Thursday night to my bed completely covered in glass, all of our underpants scattered around the room and all of my jewlery and jewelry making kit strewn around the room - so much glass, so many beads. My room in tatters; a nice metaphor for for certain elements of my life at the moment.

I have to admit that one of the more shameful parts in all of this was seeing the dust that was used for fingerprinting all over my bedroom and knowing that it wasn’t only the burglar who had been going through my underwear drawer but the police too. Talking to friends, the embarrassment of knowing that stranger have gone through your smalls is a fairly common one.

Anyway between feeling sorry for myself and all of the pre-course work (grammar, short-hand, procrastination) that I’ve been doing, naturally I’ve not had a great deal of blogging time. I’m back now. I’m finding the funny. There is more to come.
