The PMA course starts in just over a week from now and I just wanted to update you about where I’m at with it all:
We have to have gotten through the first eight chapters of the Teeline Fast Shorthand book. I’m still on Chapter One and wondering how on earth I am ever going to be able to understand it as there is far too much ambiguity in the strokes – I really don’t understand how I am ever going to get to the point where I will be able to convert the sounds of speech into shorthand and then back into scintillating copy!!!
Internship: I have narrowed my interest down to three titles and am now in the process of contacting them in order to set up a two week placement. I have to go to a weekly trade mag, I’m trying to stick to the things I already know a bit about – Media and Fashion so hopefully I will be able to set something up in the next week or so.
I’ve been helping Lee out a wee bit on the Maxim style awards - go and vote (www.maxim.co.uk). I’ve just been doing some blurbs and picture researching for her.
I’m starting to feel very afraid of the course schedule that I have committed to. I’ve been very keen on doing ‘whatever it takes’ in order to to become a journalist, I’m just really scared that after nine weeks without a single day off I may burn out…
I’ve organised a ‘Bon Voyage Social’ for myself for next week. I figure if we all imagine I have gone backpacking for the summer they will be less peeved by my MIA status. Anyway its probably the last decent chance I will have to catch up with everyone for a while so I plan to make the most of it!
This weekend I will be tightening up my CV, getting a few more chapters into my shorthand book, having at least one bubble bath and just generally trying to chill out -Yes my life is that exciting.
