Guy and i decided to go and be Cultural on Wednesday night. We bandied around the possibility of going to play with the kids exhibitions during a late night opening at the Science Museum or going to see a Midsummer Night’s dream at the Globe. Instead, we decided on British Piano at the venerable and very local Vortex Jazz Bar. There were a lot of middle aged people and tables with candles on them so we thought we were going to get lots of Culture, and that this might some how make up for the fact that we watched Forgetting Sarah Marshall the night before. Instead, we got midi infused acid jazz, some generic jazz that was inspired by the master, Miles Davis and finally a duo whose act centred around a man alternating between a saw and a sonic violin.
Jonathan Gee and Mika Myallari, or the Northern Light project (as they’re calling themselves after some crazy communing with nature experience under then Northern Lights) were first up.
Their suite was about the different metaphyisical qualities of snooker balls. I kid you not. I wonder why I need fiction when real life is this random.
In honour of this performance of crart (crap art), I have decided to bring you my thoughts on the three experimental acts using my own experimental process, of combining visual imagery with commentary on how each would fit into the world of movie and televisual soundtracks.
